Title in English
Evaluation of the economic efficiency in the allocation of resources in sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) production
Abstract in English
This study analyzes the economic efficiency in sugarcane farm using production economics theory. A Cobb-Douglas type production function was estimated utilizing data from production modules collected by the farm's agricultural operation control. The dependent variable is the production of each module and the independent variable are: land, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, vinasse and herbicides. The results obtained show that Cobb-Douglas model adequately fitted the data sampled and the model analyzed showed constant returns to scale. The Value of Marginal Physical Productivity of inputs and their price relationships showed that resources are not allocated efficiently. In order to attain optimal allocation of resources the firm has to do the following: to increase the use of land, potassium and vinasse; to reduce the use of nitrogen, herbicides and phosphorus. Another conclusion is that the new concept of adjustement of production function to data from production modules is possible and usefull to intrafarm decision making
