Abstract in Portuguese

&Jain on rice (Oryza sativa L.) seeds: quantification and localization of inoculum, effects on the crop stablishment and control with fungicides
Abstract in English
Five seed samples of rice (cultivar IAC 47) from seed production fields with high incidence of Drechslera oryzae in the State of Goiás were evaluated with respect on the following aspects: incidence and severity of the pathogen in the seeds; germination capacity of the seeds; localization of the pathogen in differents parts of the seed; transmission of D. oryzae from seeds to seedlings under laboratory and greenhouse conditions; and the effect of fungicides tested under"in vitro"and"in vivo"conditions. The incidence of D. oryzae on the seed samples varied from 9.75 to 85.75%. The pathogen is located mainly in the glumes and endosperm tissues, rarely being found in the embryo. The best fungicides tested were the combination of iprodione + thiram, iprodione and guazatine. Treated seeds resulted inhealthy seedlings than non-treated ones. It was concluded that: the health test is a good tool for evaluation of incidence and severity of the pathogen in the seeds; seeds with low incidence (up to 10%) of D. oryzae should not be treated with fungicides; transmission rates of D. oryzae from seeds to seedlings were greater under laboratory condition than in the greenhouse
