Abstract in English
The objective of this work was to study seed mechanical damage due to seed processing and its effects on physical and physiological corn seed quality. Seeds obtained from two cultivars, IAC-8222 e IAC-HMD-8214, mechanically harvested and thrashed were utilized. Seed samples were periodically collected through 26 different points at the machinery after the different seed processing phases. Evaluation of the perfomance of the various seed lots was done by means of physical purity, mechanical damage, germination and vigor tests. It was concluded that corn seeds didn't suffer significant mechanical damage during the most of the processing phases. It was observed only a tendency by damage increase. The seed processing has only improved the physical seed quality until the cleaning phase. Seed processing has not affected the seed germination; however, the chemical treatment phase induced a loss of seed vigor of some lots
