POROSIDADE DO SOLO

Abstract in English
This investigation was developed to set up equations to estimate macro and microporosity. The equations were gotten through multiple regression by the square minimum method, using granulometry, soil density and total porosity as independent variables. Macro and microporosity may be estimated through the following equations: MICRO % = 60,57 - 0,313 S % - 0,239 TP %/ SD; MACRO % = -31,40 + 0,265 S % + 0,858 TP % /SD; MICRO % = 68,09 - 0,298 S % - 23,66/SD; MACRO % = -58,44 + 0,214 S % + 85,02/SD. Correlations between sand contents, silt and clay were also carried out; and still between sand contents and organic matter and particle density. Utilizing the macropore critical limit concept, below which an especific crop would show its development injured, it was established the"critical limit of soil density", above which there would be this effect, using the equations that estimate macro and microporosity. Regarding the suitable macropore minimum limit to the development of a difinitive crop as being 10% (the limit which is noticed for sugar cane), the critical limit of soil density may be estimated through the following equations: SD=85,8 PD/85,8 + (41,4 - 0,265 S %) PD; SD=85,02/68,44 - 0,214 S %
