Keywords in Portuguese
CONDUTIVIDADE HIDRÁULICA DO SOLO
RESÍDUOS AGROINDUSTRIAIS
SÓDIO
Title in English
Variation on hydraulic conductivity of saturated soil related to sodium solution concentrations and sodium containing wastes
Abstract in English
This paper intends to establish basic rules for land disposal of sodium containing wastes. The assessment of sodium effect was made through experiments under lab conditions by relating exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP),sodium adsorption rate (SAR) of the percolating solution and saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ko) in three different soil types. It was shown that sodium effect is not the same for the three different soil types. Also the threshold concentration changes with soil type, and with ESP of the soil. For the high CEC clay soil the criticaI ESP value was lower- than 5% for medium texture soil the criticaI ESP vaIue was lower than 8%, and for the sandy soil the criticaI ESP value was lower than 6%. It was aIso concluded that the harmful effect of sodium on the hydraulic conductivity can be reverted oy soil leaching, that means that land disposal of sodium containing wastes should be followed by water applications or by using the rainy season for the disposal.
