No período de abril de 1984 a outubro de 1985, estudou-se a concentração de SO2-4 nas águas do Rio Quilombo, em função das contribuições de origem natural e antropogênica. Além do SO2-4, foram dosados os íons: Na+, Cl-, NO-3 e NH+sup>4 nas águas de chuva e do rio com a finalidade de possibilitar comparações, estabelecer possíveis correlações e fornecer subsídios para o balanço de massa. A lixiviação dos solos da região, avaliada em laboratório demonstrou que há adsorção de SO2-4 e Cl-. Para o SO2-4 em especial, a adsorção pelo solo e sobretudo a retenção no mangue, justifica os baixos teores do mesmo nas águas do Rio Quilombo, embora a introdução deste íon na bacia, via atmosfera, seja bastante significativa.

Abstract in English
From April 1984 through October 1985 the concentration of SO2-4 in the Quilombo River water was a function of natural and anthropogenic contributions was studied. Na+, Cl-, NO-3 e NH+sup>4 ions were also measured, both in rain and river water, in order to study possible correlations and to establish a general budget of these ions the basin. The lixiviation of this region soils was performed in laboratory and showed that SO2-4 and Cl- ions are adsorbed by them. Specially for SO2-4 this adsorption by soils and mainly the retention by the mangrove, explains the low level concentration found in the Quilombo Valley through the atmosphere is very high
