NEMATOIDES PARASITOS DE PLANTAS

Chemical control of the reniform nematode attacking cotton
Abstract in English
The control of the reniform nematode (Roxylenchulus reniformis Linford & Oliveira, 1940) in the cotton crop through nematicides, used in different formulations, applications procedures and dosages, alone and associated with variable quantities of mineral fertilizers, was studied. Three field experiments were set up, two located in the region of Leme, SP, and one in São João da Boa Vista, SP. Disulphoton, carbosulphan and carbofuran were used, the latter formulations, application methods and dosages. Aldicarb was used as a reference. Parameters considered were: height of plants, weight of bolls, fiber characteristics, total yield and the populations of the parasite in the soil at different times. Number of plants exhibiting characteristics green and pale spotted leaves, a symptom known in Brazil as "carijó" was also recorded. A significant increase in the height of treated plants, mainly those grown in the soi1 wich received carbofuran, was observed after 100 and 130 days. Fiber characteristics were not affected significantly by the treatments. Treatments with nematicides other than disulphoton resulted in yields superior to those of the check plots, a1though this increase was not always statistical1y significant. Lower nematode populations in soils treated with nematicides were observed only at the time of the first sampling, at approximately 35 days from their application. No differences in these populations were observed in the subsequent samples. "Carijó" symptom was observed mainly after 80 days; in the treated plots the number of plants exhibiting this symptom was significantly lower.
