A presente tese refere-se a análise e caracterização urbana e sanitária frente ao processo de globalização do mundo atual, centradas na cidade de Florianópolis,SC. Foram utilizados referenciais teóricos para os conceitos e noções de três pontos básicos: globalização, urbanização e Saúde Pública, e levantamento histórico-documentais sobre o processo de urbanização, a situação econômica, social, urbana e sanitária, global e local. Para a análise das condições de Saúde Pública foram utilizados dados e levantamentos epidemiológicos globais e locais, desde a colonização até o presente. Constata-se que: 1 - A globalização no mundo contemporâneo, segundo variáveis de natureza econômica, política, social e cultural, bloqueia a produção social do espaço urbano e da saúde, quanto aos princípios da universalidade e da igualdade, devido ao neoliberalismo (desenvolvimento desigual), à fragmentação, à desterritorialidade, à hierarquização e à homogeneização; 2 - O direito universal à cidade e à saúde exige a superação da produção abstrata do espaço e da saúde com a concretização do espaço social e da saúde coletiva. Nessa direção a importância de convergir a problemática urbana e a sanitária na viabilização de uma prática social comum ou seja: uma praxis sócio- espacial-sanitária; 3 - A cidade/município de Florianópolis, em relação a sua urbanização e Saúde Pública, sofre as contradições, os antagonismos, as hierarquias, as tensões, as divergências e os conflitos decorrentes do processo de globalização. A superação das imensas disparidades sociais , como questão de sobrevivência e futuro da humanidade, só poderá ocorrer com a descontinuidade da ordem atual de progresso, o que faz o socialismo ter atualidade histórica e contingencial.

The present thesis addresses to the urban and sanitary analysis and characterization in the context of the world globalization process, taking into account the case of Florianópolis/SC. It was used the theoretical framework for the concepts and notions of three basic points: globalization, urbanization and Public Health. A historical investigation was made on the urbanization process and the socio-economic, urban and sanitary situation at both global and local levels, as well as global and local epidemiological data were used for the analysis of Public Health's conditions from the colonization period until nowadays. The following points were observed: 1 - According to the socio-economic,political, social and cultural variables the globalization of the contemporary world impedes the social production of urban space and health as for the principles of universality and equality, due to the neoliberalism(unequal development),the fragmentation, the extraterritory, the hierarchyzation and the homogeneity. 2- The universal right to live in a city and to health demands to overcome the abstract production of the space and health with the solidification of the social space and the abstract production of the space and health with the solidification of the social space and the public health. Thus, it is important to converge the urban and sanitary problematic toward the viability of a common social practice.That is, in a social-spatial-sanitary praxis. 3 - The city and the municipality of Florianópolis, in relation to its urbanization and Public Health, suffer the contradictions, the antagonisms, the hierarchies, the tensions, the divergene and the conflicts that arises from the globalization process. The huge social disparity such as surviving problems and the future of the humanity will be overcame with the interruption of the curent progress rule, which means that the socialism has its historical and conditional premises nowadays.
