Radiação Ciclotrônica de Elétrons em Tokamaks: Plasmas Térmicos e não Térmicos
Keywords in Portuguese
Física de plasmas
B0 =I, l4T, n,0 = 2,0xl019 m-3 e T,0 = 500eV a profundidade óptica é superior à unidade na
O efeito do
As
eletrônica não térmica: \'F;1 F = I 00- 800ke V, Tl. = 25 - 80ke V e n, = 2, 5 - 3, 5x 1015 m _, . O

Abstract in English
In this work a study o f the electron cyclotron emission (ECE) diagnostic in tokamak plasmas was carried out. Relevant aspects of the ECE theory and radiometry are initially examined. Two experimental works made in the TCABR and JET tokamaks are discussed. In the TCABR, for the second harmonic X mode, the radiation is observed without
harmonic overlapping between 52 and 740Hz. It is totally accessible up to densities of
2.35xl019m-3
For the region -Sem s r s +8cm the optical depth is larger than the unity. To
detect the ECE radiation a sweeping heterodyne radiometer, operating from 50 to 85 GHz,
was used. For this device the noise temperature (- 2000K) and noise figure (Fds 512dB)
were measured. The radiometer was calibrated in frequency and in intensity. The frequency
calibration was carried out by means of a precision harmonic oscillator. The absolute
calibration was done using a blackbody (microwave absorber) immersed in liquid nitrogen
(77K) and also put in an oven with adjustable temperature up to 1470K. The effect of the
glass o f the diagnostic window was included in the absolute calibration curve. A Gaussian
antenna was used for better space resolution measurements. The antenna focal length is
37cm, the beam waist radius is l,lcm and angular aperture is -2°. The radiometer presented a
good performance and it is in use in severa! experiments. Some results were also obtained in
lhe TCABR with ECE radiation involving the measurement of the electron density and
sawtooth oscillations.
Another experimental study was also carried out to characterize the electron
distribution function in the plasma o f the JET tokamak during the injection of LH waves. The
plasma-wave interaction occurs via Electron Landau Damping resulting in a fàst electron
population which is responsible for the non inductive current generated. The injected LH
wave spectrum was centered in N,, - 1.8 and, for this value, ELD occurs at energies
-JOOkeV. In this experiment two diagnostics were used, based in ECE and Bremsstrahlung
radiation. They are complementary with respect to the fast electron moment distribution in
the direction parallel and perpendicular to the magnetic field. The ECE spectrum was
measured by a Michelson interferometer operating between 50 to 350 GHz. The detection of
the Bremsstrahlung radiation was done by 19 detectors operating in the I00-300keV energy
band. The results were discussed using numerical data obtained by codes. For the electron
distribution function, a model with three temperatures ( T~, I;, F , I;, 8 ) was used. The
measured photon temperature Tph showed a weak radial dependence indicating that lhe
parallel electron momentum p11 distribution does not vary with radius. Magnetic diagnostic
measurements allowed the suprathermal electron density to be measured. T~ was determined
by fitting the ECE simulated spectra in experimental ones. The results for the fast nonthermal
electronic population were: I;, F = I 00- 800ke V , TL = 25 - 80ke V and
n, =2.5-3.5xl015m-3. The method used and the performed analysis showed to be a
powerful instrument to investigate plasmas during lower hybrid current drive scenarios.
