A toxina botulínica tipo-A é utilizada para o tratamento de diversas enfermidades que acometem o ser humano, bem como em procedimentos estéticos. Contudo, as agências reguladoras, internacionais e nacional, no âmbito da saúde enquadram a toxina botulínica na categoria C de risco de gravidez, tornando seu uso contraindicado durante a gestação, sendo recomendada apenas se o benefício justificar o risco potencial para o feto. Assim, o objetivo desse trabalho foi estudar os comportamentos social e tipo-ansioso das proles de ratas expostas durante a gestação (5 º dia gestacional) à toxina botulínica tipo-A (4, 8 ou 16 U/kg, por via intramuscular). Os testes comportamentais foram realizados nas proles masculina e feminina na infância e idade adulta, sendo eles: comportamento de brincar, interação social, labirinto em cruz elevado, gromming espontâneo e marble burying test. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que a exposição gestacional de ratas à toxina botulínica tipo-A não interferiu em nenhum dos parâmetros analisados nos diferentes testes comportamentais. Com base nos resultados apresentados, é possível concluir que a exposição gestacional de ratas à toxina botulínica tipo-A não causou alterações no comportamento social e tipo-ansioso da prole, tanto na infância quanto na idade adulta, de ambos os sexos. Esses resultados podem contribuir, juntamente com outros, para o uso mais seguro desse medicamento durante a gestação.

Botulinum toxin type-A is utilized for the treatment of various illnesses affecting humans, as well as in aesthetic procedures. However, international and national regulatory agencies within the realm of health categorize botulinum toxin as a Category C risk for pregnancy, rendering its use contraindicated during gestation, and recommended only if the benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the social and anxiety-like behaviors of rat offspring exposed during gestation (5th gestational day) to botulinum toxin type-A (4, 8, or 16 U/kg, intramuscularly). Behavioral tests were conducted on male and female offspring in infancy and adulthood, including play behavior, social interaction, elevated plus maze, spontaneous grooming, and marble burying test. The results showed that gestational exposure of rats to botulinum toxin type-A did not interfere with any of the parameters analyzed in the different behavioral tests. Based on the presented results, it can be concluded that gestational exposure of rats to botulinum toxin type-A did not cause alterations in social and anxiety-like behavior of offspring, both in infancy and adulthood, of both sexes. These findings may contribute, along with others, to the safer use of this medication during pregnancy.
