A dexmedetomidina é uma medicação utilizada para sedação de felinos domésticos e possui efeitos cardiovasculares importantes. Nosso objetivo foi avaliar comparativamente os efeitos ecocardiográficos e o grau de sedação de duas diferentes apresentações de dexmedetomidina: em gel e líquida administradas pela via transmucosa oral em gatos saudáveis. Treze animais participaram do estudo e foram divididos em dois grupos: DexG40 (n=6) que recebeu Cloridrato de Dexmedetomidina gel 0,01%, e DexL10 (n=7) recebeu10 µg/kg de dexmedetomidina na forma líquida 0,5mg/ml. Os animais foram avaliados quanto ao grau de sedação, escala comportamental, frequência cardíaca (FC), pressão arterial não invasiva (PAS), tempo de preenchimento capilar (TPC) e ecocardiograma transtorácico nos momentos: basal e 5, 15, 30, 60, 90 e 120 minutos após a aplicação da medicação. O grupo DexG40 composto por: 4 fêmeas e 2 machos, média de peso de 2,94 ± 0,46Kg, média de idade 1,15 ±0,08 anos e sem raça definida. O Grupo DexL10 composto por: três machos e quatro fêmeas, média de peso de 4,62 ±1 Kg e a média de idade foi de 2±1 anos. No grupo DexG40 houve queda da FC, da FR, PAS, velocidade máxima em saída de ventrículo esquerdo (VmaxAo), fração de ejeção de ventrículo esquerdo (FEVE), aumento da onda A mitral (A) e queda da relação entre as ondas E e A mitral (E/A). O grupo DexL10 apresentou queda de FC, FR, débito cardíaco, VmaxAo, FEVE, onda A e aumento de E/A mitral e grau de sedação, com p<0,05. Concluímos que a dexmedetomidina na dose de 10 µ/kg na forma líquida via transmucosa oral pode ser uma opção para sedações leves em animais saudáveis, com pouca repercussão hemodinâmica. A apresentação em gel fornecida para este estudo não se mostrou efetiva para sedação dos animais.

Dexmedetomidine is a medication used for sedation of domestic felines and has important cardiovascular effects. Our objective was to comparatively evaluate the echocardiographic effects and the degree of sedation of two different presentations of dexmedetomidine: gel and liquid administered by oral transmucosal route in healthy cats. Thirteen animals participated in the study and were divided into two groups: DexG40 (n=6) that received Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride gel 0.01%, and DexL10 (n=7) received 10 µg/kg of dexmedetomidine 0.5mg/ml in liquid form. The animals were evaluated for the degree of sedation, behavioral scale, heart rate (HR), non-invasive blood pressure (SBP), capillary refill time (CPT) and transthoracic echocardiogram at baseline and 5, 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after medication application. The DexG40 group was composed of: 4 females and 2 males, mean weight of 2.94 ± 0.46Kg, mean age 1.15 ± 0.08 years and no defined breed. The DexL10 Group was composed of: three males and four females mean weight of 4.62 ± 1 kg and mean age was 2 ±1 years, 5 animals were mixed breed, 1 Bengal and 1 Siamese. In the DexG40 group, there was a decrease in HR, RR, SBP, maximum left ventricular outflow velocity (VmaxAo), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), increase in the mitral A wave (A) and a decrease in the ratio between the E waves and A mitral valve (E/A). The DexL10 group showed a decrease in HR, RR, cardiac output, VmaxAo, LVEF, A wave and an increase in mitral E/A and degree of sedation, with p<0,05. We conclude that oral transmucosal dexmedetomidine at a dose of 10 µ/kg in liquid form may be an option for light sedation in healthy animals, with little hemodynamic repercussions. The gel presentation provided for this study was not effective for sedating the animals.
