Programas de preparação para a aposentadoria

Retirement preparation programs
Abstract in English
Introduction - Due to the rapid increase in the life expectancy of Brazilians, projects that propose reforms to the social security system stand out in the academic and political scenario. However, much less attention has been given to a recurring need: the preparation for retirement. Objective - To examine the main characteristics of retirement preparation programs within the universe of Brazilian closed entities of complementary pension plans. Methods - An online questionnaire containing open- and closed-ended questions of simple and multiple choices was answered in order to collect data. The universe of consulted organizations comprised 108 closed entities of complementary pension plans. This study has also reviewed literature extracted from the SIBiUSP, Google Scholar, Web of Science, CAPES, AgeLine, SciELO, and PsycInfo databases, which included the following terms: "preparação" and "aposentadoria", as well as "planejamento" and "aposentadoria" ("preparation" and "retirement", as well as "planning" and "retirement"). Results - Regarding the analyzed literature, the number of documents has been narrowed down to 27, of which only one examined the number of retirement preparation programs within a certain group of Brazilian organizations. The response rate of the online questionnaires was of 20.37%, but after applying exclusion criteria, only 20 of them (18.58% of the total) were considered as worth of analysis. Among the entities that filled out the questionnaire only 7 of them have offered retirement preparation programs to a total of 13,663 employees. Some of these programs would have already been implemented for over 10 years with a variety of themes being approached. The main communication channels employed to publicize those programs would be the Internet, events and Human Resources areas. Program coordination would be carried out in many occasions by the employees of the entities themselves. The target participants of most programs would find themselves between 1 and 5 years prior to retirement, and program duration would be quite variable, ranging from 1 day to 1 quarter. Activities would take place more often in a group format rather than individually, and in some cases relatives of participants would also partake in them. Overall the offered programs would result in positive returns to participants, to their relatives and to the entities themselves. In only one instance has the entity followed up on the retirees after their participation in the program. According to the answers, those entities that have not offered retirement preparation programs yet would be interested in their implementation, but they have mentioned some existing barriers such as scarcity of financial resources and staff, as well as lack of knowledge on the topic. Conclusions - Although the results have been of little quantitative expression, they indicate what has already been observed in the literature: the offer of retirement preparation programs in Brazil is scarce and precarious. Further research needs to be conducted in order to achieve a better comprehension of the topic
