Abstract in English
This thesis aims to build a discourse, even visual, that allows us to understand how the Jesuitics signs are reflected in the search of Lucio Costa in order to legitimize the identity of the modern movement and nationality at Vargas Era. It intends to show the existence of the symbolism of the Jesuits in Lucio Costa, in the SPHAN and in the MEC4 of the Vargas Era. To this target, it analyzes the functional solutions of colonial architecture in the residential works of Lucio Costa, also attributed to the architecture of the Jesuits, arguing that, after all, the Aristotelian Thomist Jesuitic courtyard, a multifunctional and modern space, is present with a new typology in the residential courtyards of this architect. It also highlights the historical importance of the Jesuits in the Church and in Brazil, who, with their simple and functional modernity, blessed modernists such as Lucio Costa, Rodrigo Melo e Franco, Drummond and Portinari between 1930 and 1953. Since the plans of education and modern heritage result from a rapprochement between the State and the Church between 1930-1945, and reveal the conjunctures and structures of the systematic construction of a theory capable of interpreting Brazil, as a condition of support for the self-appointed role of the civilizing hero of the nation, this role linked to Vargas and the loyolans, it is argued that the Jesuitics courtyards are symbolic powers that legitimized at once the identity of the Vargas Era, of SPHAN and the architecture of Lucio Costa.
