Tarsila in the Palaces: the process of valuing and musealizing his work in the Collection Artistic-Cultural of the Government Palaces of São Paulo.

Abstract in English
The Artistic-Cultural Collection of the Government Palaces of São Paulo comprises thirteen works by Tarsila, forming an invaluable collection. Many of these works were directly acquired from the artist herself, through the initiative of the Governor of São Paulo, Abreu Sodré, and his finance secretary, Luís Arrobas Martins, in the early 1970s. Advised by critics such as Paulo Mendes de Almeida, Oswaldo de Andrade Filho, among others, Arrobas Martins was always attentive to the quality and didactic importance of the acquired artworks. However, Tarsila do Amaral faced difficulties in achieving this recognition. It was only after the musealization of her works that the artist began to occupy a place in the pantheon of national artists. To discuss this path to consecration, this study aims to focus on the collection of Tarsila do Amaral's artworks housed in the Artistic-Cultural Collection of the Palaces of the Government of São Paulo. Through an exploratory bibliographic and documentary research, we intend to understand the reasons behind the acquisition in the context of the 1970s and how these works fit into the decorative project of the Government Palaces.
