Esta dissertação elegeu como objetos de estudo dois museus que versam sobre a temática da imigração: o Museu da Imigração do Estado de São Paulo e o Musée National de l'Histoire de l'Immigration situado em Paris. Tal temática ganhou expansão contínua na esfera dos museus desde os 1990, impulsionada pela abertura de instituições em diferentes países ocidentais. A dimensão memorial dos deslocamentos humanos está cada vez mais em evidência, em função dos debates em torno do acolhimento e das tensões econômicas ligadas à recente expansão dos fluxos migratórios, assim como pelos conflitos indentitários por eles gerados. Atentamo-nos a esse quadro contemporâneo de reflexões no âmbito da Museologia e procuramos compreender a formação das coleções dos museus supracitados. Essa pesquisa insere-se, portanto, no âmbito da compreensão da ação museológica e da formação de coleções como suportes para significação do papel dos imigrantes nas sociedades que os acolheram em cidades profundamente marcadas pela experiência da imigração, procurando também dimensionar e interpretar o grau de compartilhamento social de tais decisões governamentais por meio da formação de seus acervos.

This dissertation chose as objects of study two museums that deal with the subject of immigration: the Museum of Immigration of the State of São Paulo and the Musée National de l'Histoire de l'Immigration located in Paris. This theme has been continuously expanding in the sphere of museums since the 1990s, driven by the opening of institutions in different Western countries. The memorial dimension of human displacement is increasingly evident, in light of the debates surrounding the reception and economic tensions associated with the recent expansion of migratory flows, as well as the identity conflicts generated by them. We look at this contemporary picture of museology reflections and try to understand the formation of the museum collections mentioned above. This research is therefore part of the understanding of museological action and of the formation of collections as a medium for the meaning of the role of immigrants in the societies that welcomed them in cities deeply marked by the experience of immigration, also trying to size and interpret the degree of social sharing of such governmental decisions through the formation of their collections.
