Abstract in Portuguese
No presente trabalho é apresentado um método de determinação de densidade aparente e teor de água do solo pela absorção da radiação gama. O método parece promissor para o estudo de fluxo não saturado de água no solo, pois podem ser obtidas medidas de densidade aparente e teor de água sem perturbação do sistema. Nas determinações empregaram-se três tipos de solo de características físicas distintas e uma fonte de radiação gama de Cs134, de 30 mC.

A method of using gamma-ray absorption to measure the bulk density and the moisture content of soil is described. The method appears promising in the study of unsaturated water flow, since measurement of both bulk density and water content can be obtained without disturbing the sample. Three soils of different physical characteristics and a Cs134 gamma-ray source of 30 mC were used.
