Por espectrometria gama de alta resolução, determinou-se a radioatividade específica de solos e rochas no Município de Piracicaba, SP. Para isso, utilizou-se dos radionuclídeos das séries do Urânio, Tório e Actínio e outros de interesse como o 40K e o 137Cs. Foram coletadas amostras a 60 cm de profundidade de solos representativos ao nível de Grandes Grupos e também amostras de rochas típicas da região. Após o preparo, as amostras lacradas foram deixadas em repouso até atingirem uma condição próxima do equilíbrio secular e então foi efetuada a contagem na região do fotopicos mais importantes dos componentes de cada série. A média ponderada de radioatividade específica dos solos do município foi de 24,1 Bq. kg-1 para o 226Ra e 34,8 Bq. kg-1 para o 232Th.

Natural radioactivity in soils from Piracicaba, SP (Brazil)
Abstract in English
Using high resolution gamma spectrometry, the specific radioactivity of soils and rocks from Piracicaba, SP (BRAZIL) was determined. For this purpose, the Ra, Th and Ac natural series and some other nuclides such as 40K and 137Cs were considered. Soil samples representing the main Soil Groups were collected at a 60-cm depth. Typical rock samples were also collected. After initial sample preparation, the sealed samples were allowed to rest until reaching the conditions approaching the secular equilibrium. Thereafter, counting was carried out, peak areas being the measurement basis. The mean ponderated values for soil specific activity were 24.1 and 34.8 Bq. kg-1 for the 226Ra and 232Th, respectively.
