Keywords in Portuguese

Abstract in English
Thin sections of profiles from four great groups of soils were obtained, in order to study: the viability of application of the microstereometric method in the determination of the volume of illuviated clay, the involved errors, the calculation of suitable sampling. The volume of illuviated clay was obtained in 46 thin sections, with an integration ocular, undor a polarizing microscope, by surveying a total of 460.000 points. The illuviated clay frequency distributions, obtained in the thin sections were adjusted to three theorical distributions, common binomial, Poisson and generalized binomial; which allowed the es- timations of the errors of the method and the involved microvariations. The number of points necessary to obtain the statiscally suitable samples was obtained by considering two levels of significance and six precision limits. The resulta obtained were discussed in function of pedogenetic aspects and soil classification.
