Abstract in English
The frequency of the opaque-2 gene was determined in 16 maize populations, formed by 5 indigenous varieties, 10 commercial varieties and one Broad Composite, pertaining to the Germplasm Bank of the Instituto de Genética of the ESALQ. The population Maya-opaque-2 which is homozygous recessive to this gene, was used as a tester and crossed with the populations previously detasseled, in a allelism test. The detectation of the heterozygous ears in the population were done using the chi-square test adapted to the expected frequency of a 1:1 ratio. Ten populations, being 4 indigenous, 5 commercials and the Broad Composite, showed genic frequencies for the opaque-2 gene varying from 34,46% to 0,07%. An attempt to explain the genic frequency variation found in these populations is presented.
