Abstract in English
ln the present work the importance of cashew, Anacardium occidentale, of the family Anacardiaceae and the injury caused to cashew in the state of Pernambuco by the insect commonly known as white fly of cashew, Aleurodicus cocois (Curtis, 1846) Morgan, 1892 (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) were considered. Among the ways to suppress the white fly populations biological control was cited as the most likely method since both native and introduced natural enemies have been listed. A predator of the white fly in the genus Nephaspis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) was noted to be the most active natural enemy of this pest. This new species is being described by R.D. Gordon of the Entomology Research Division of the United States Department of Agriculture. Notes are given on the biology of both A. cocois and its predator, Nephaspis sp.
