Este estudo abordou os problemas relacionados com a adoção de inovações tecnológicas no meio rural. O enfoque não foi sobre uma região ou um município. Selecionou-se alguns proprietários rurais no município de Guaíra, Estado de São Paulo, para testar um quadro teórico. A teoria utilizada foi a da ação social de Talcott Parsons. Mais especificamente, explorou-se os elementos de orientação subjetiva do agente. Tinha-se como objetivo principal testar esta teoria e demonstrar o teor explicativo da ocorrência ou não de inovações. Ao lado disto, como haviam informações sobre um número maior de proprietários, tentou-se mostrar como o processo de difusão de inovações está conectado com a política de desenvolvimento econômico. Não apenas com a atual, mas com aquela estabelecida desde a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Sob este aspecto procurou-se mostrar a interdependência, no que diz respeito às transferências de produtos entre os setores urbano e rural. A ênfase é que o caráter dependente provoca no último perdas substanciais nas relações de trocas. De um modo geral, procuro demonstrar que o problema de adoção de inovações no campo deve ser focalizado sob uma abordagem macro sociológica, pois os estudos específicos tem-se tornado insuficientes para ampliar o estágio atual de nosso conhecimento. O caráter dependente de nossa economia e a política econômica e social voltada para o setor rural, passam a ser, elementos extremamente importantes para a determinação de alternativas que visem à resolução do problema.

This study approached the problems related to the adoption of technological innovations in the rural area. The focus was not on a region or a “municipio”. Some farmers in the municipio of Guaira, State of São Paulo, were selected to test a the oretical frame of reference. The theory utilized was that of social action, of Talcott Parsons. More specifically, some elements of subjective orientation of the agent were explored. The main objective was to test this theory and demonstrate the explaining power of the occurrence or non-occurrence of innovations. In addition, since information was available on a larger number of farmers, an attempt was made to show how the process of diffusion of innovations is related to the economic development policy - not only with current policy but also with that established since World War II. Under this aspect, an attempt was made to show the interdependence with respect to the transfers of products between the urban and rural sectors. The emphasis is that the dependent character causes substantial losses in the rural sector in the exchange relationships. In a general way, I try to demonstrate that the problem of adoption of innovations in the rural area should be focused under a macro sociological approach, since the existing specific studies have become insufficient to widen the present stage of our knowledge. The dependent character (nature) of our economy and the economic and social policy oriented to the rural sector have become extremely important elements for the determination of alternatives designed to solve the problem.
