Durante os anos de 1977/78, foram examinadas amostras de poeira doméstica provenientes de residências da cidade de Rio Claro, Estado de São Paulo, e 52 residências mostraram-se positivas revelando a ocorrência de ácaros, perfazendo um total de 2.196 espécimes. A distribuição observada em porcentagem das principais famílias foi a seguinte: Glycyphagidae 79,50, Cheyletidae 7,78, Pyroglyphidae 6,78 e várias outras famílias 5,94. Não houve similaridade nos resultados quando comparados com os de outros autores. Quatorze espécies de ácaros foram identificados, sendo que 5 pela primeira vez para o Brasil (Blomia tropicalis, Ker bakeri, Grallacheles bakeri, Spinibdella cronini e Haplochthonius simplex). Também foram examinadas 20 amostras de poeira doméstica de outras localidades do Brasil.

House dust samples of 60 homes in the city of Rio Claro, São Paulo, and 20 from other localities in Brazil collected in 1977/78, were screened for mites. A total number of 2196 mite specimens were recovered from 0,5 g samples. These belonged to families Glycyphagidae - 79.5%, Cheyletidae - ... ... … . The data obtained are different from those of other authors from other areas of the world. Fourteen species were identified and Blomia Tropicalis, ... ... are being reported for the first time from Brazil.
