Abstract in English
Mercury concentration in samples of water and fishes belonging to the species Mugil curema, Mugil liza, Centropomus undecimalis, Paralichthys brasiliensis, Menticirrhus americanus, Trichiurus lepturus e Eugerres brasilianus, was determined using the substoichiometric isotopic dilution and 203Hg as tracer. The samples were collected at three different places of the São Vicente (São Paulo State) estuarine area. The behaviour of mercury according to the sampling places was studied. Mercury content in the muscular tissue was considered in relation to the habitat and feeding habits of the species. Some improvement has been achieved in the analysis, of mercury in muscular fish tissue and water samples by substoichiometric isotopic dilution, and accuracy, precision and sensibility of this technique was comproved. A new analytical technique has been proposed, the proportional substoichiometric isotopic dilution, and has shown that the use of standards is unnecessary.
