Abstract in English
Lethal effects were studied for the egg, larval and pupal stages as well as sterilization of adults of Sitophilus oryzae (L.) by the application of gamma radiation. Eggs irradiated with an estimated of 8867 ± 177 rad no longer give emergency to larvae. Larvae irradiated with an estimated dose of 4228 ± 85 rad do not develop into pupae and adults. Irradiation of pupae with an estimated dose of 7887 ± 158 rad inhibits adult emergency. Hypotheses have been suggested that the apparent density and (or) nutrient value of food substrates decisively influence the sterilizing doses for this insect. Thus, in rice and maize which are apparently denser and (or) of higher nutrient value than macaroni, insects are sterilized by a doses of 7 krad, while in macaroni the sterilizing doses decreases to 5 krad.
