Abstract in English
A technique was developed for rearing the sugarcane borer Diatraea saccharalis (Fabr.,1794). The method proposed was mainly based on the following: 1. separation of the egg masses 2. automatic placing eggs in the containers 3. automatic placing of diet in the containers 4. diet sterilization by gamma radiation 5. device for supplying food to adult insects. Larvae were reared in plastic containers with 30 cc capacity, the receptacles for oviposition were polyethylene bags and the diet utilized was that developed by HENSEL & HAMMOND (1968). Some biological data on the insect were obtained under laboratory conditions and an analysis was made of the rearing costs.
