O principal objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar a eficiência do uso dos recursos nas culturas de soja e algodão numa região altamente tecnificada. Especificamente os objetivos são: a) estimar funções de produção dos tipos Cobb-Douglas e Ulveling-Fletcher e comparar os resultados obtidos; b) verificar a possibilidade de uso de outras variáveis que não as comumente usadas em estudos de função de produção, no sentido de tentar dar aos fatores que entram no processo produtivo, uma maior representatividade; c) no caso do uso da função Ulveling-Fletcher, estimar as variações que podem ocorrer com as elasticidades parciais de produção; d) determinar os retornos à escala, assim como os valores das produtividades média e marginal dos fatores; e) comparar os níveis de eficiência de uso dos recursos nas duas culturas; f) fazer uma análise das implicações econômicas dos resultados. A informação básica utilizada na presente pesquisa foi obtida através de entrevista direta com os agricultores dos municípios de Guaíra, Jardinópolis e Sales de Oliveira, pertencentes a uma amostra escolhida ao acaso do rol de proprietários cadastrados no INCRA. A amostra é constituída de 62 observações para a cultura de algodão e 52 para a de soja, referentes ao ano agrícola 1971/72. A fim de diminuir os problemas decorrentes da multicolinearidade, o modelo produtividade foi utilizado. Foram feitos vários ajustamentos com dois tipos de função, a Cobb-Douglas e a Ulveling-Fletcher, e os modelos selecionados foram (os modelos estão descritos na dissertação).

The main objective of this research was to analyze the efficiency of the use of resources on soybean and cotton crops in a highly technified region. More specifically, the objectives were: a) to estimate Cobb-Douglas and Ulveling-Fletcher type functions and compare the results obtained; b) to determine the possibility of using other variables than those commonly used in production function studies, in an attempt to give the factors which enter the productive process a higher representativeness; c) in the case where the Ulveling-Fletcher function is used, to estimate the variations which may occur with the partial production elasticities; d) to determine the returns to scale, as well as the values the average and marginal productivity of the factors; e) to compare the levels of efficiency of the use of resources for the two crops; f) to analyze the economic implications of the results. The basic information utilized in this study was obtained through direct interviews with farmers in the "municipios" of Guaíra, Jardinópolis and Sales de Oliveira included in a sample selected at random from the list of farmers registered at the INCRA. The sample consisted of 62 observations for cotton and 52 for soybeans and refer to the agricultural year 1971/72. In order to reduce the problems resulting from multicolinearity, the productivity model was utilized. Several adjustments were made with both types of functions, Cobb-Douglas and Ulveling-Fletcher, and the models selected were (the models are described in the dissertation).
