EVAPOTRANSPIRAÇÃO

Evaluation of the efficiency of methods to estimate reference crop evapotranspiration in the Parnaíba region (State of Piaui)
Abstract in English
In this study it was evaluated the efficiency of some empirical methods to estimate reference crop evapotranspiration (ETo) for the Parnaíba region. Piaui (latitude of 3°5'S, longitude of 41°47'W, Altitude of 46,8 m). A model is also proposed to calculate ETo as a function of air temperature (T), relative humidity (RH) and water vapor saturation deficit (ds). For avaluation of the methods to estimates of ETo utilized in this study, estimated values of ETo by empirical methods (radiation method, Thornthwaite, Hargreaves, Hargreaves & Samani and Blaney-Criddle) were compared with those obtained by using Penman method as modified by FAO. It was observed that only values given by the radiation method provided satisfactory estimates of ETo. All of the other methods presented underestimates of ETo, though the values obtained from the Thorntwai te method did not show results signicantly diferent at the probability level of 5%. The proposed model is a multiple linear regression equation relating monthly values of' ETo estimated using also the Penman method as modified by FAO and some climatic variables, taken each separately or in groups. Although the high correlation observed between ETo and net radiation (Rn), the latter variable was excluded from the model, as well as the windspeed (v) and sunshine (n/N), in order to obtain a simple model based on climatological elements readily available on the majority of meteorological stations. The model estimated ETo as a function of T, RH and ds, with a coefficient of determination of 0,91, but, it still requires validation. The results indicate that for the Parnaíba region the proposed model could give better estimates of ETo than those given by the methods of Thornthwaite, Hargreaves, Hargreaves & Samani and Blaney-Criddle.
