Title in English
Self-thinning law adjusted through linear and non-linear regression for Eucalyptus grandis plantations in the State of Paulo, Brazil
Abstract in English
The self-thinning law (YODA et alii, 1963) describes reciprocal changes in the average size or weight of trees and stand density along the life of a pure and even-aged stand with crown closure. This expression that relates yield and density through a non-linear model is considered one of the main law of the Biology of Plant Population and along its existence has received several criticisms because of its performance. This paper proposes a method to adjust the self-thinning model using non-linear and linearized model, for pure and even-aged stands of Eucalyptus grandis in three sites with different qualities. It was used for parameter estimates two statistical packages, SAS and GLIM. It. was tested the influence of age and site quality in the models, but they did not show significance. The results indicated that increasing spacing among trees (stand density) the volume per hectare increases, and consequently the rotation age and self-thinning. It was suggested that experiments be specially established in several site qualities to study the growth and yield of Eucalyptus grandis and the age of self-thinning.
