Seed transmission of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum (Sacc. & Magn.) Scribner in bean (Phaselous vulgaris L.) and its control by chemical and biological treatment
Abstract in English
Plant-seed transmission of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, race α, was studied in inoculated and not inoculated field plots of six bean cultivars (Lustroso, Aeté-3, Carioca Pitoco, Paininha (Bainha Vermelha), Carioca Comum and Bico de Ouro (Bainha Preta)). The seed evaluation for health, carried out through the “blotter test”, showed zero incidence of C. lindemuthianum in cvs. Paininha, and Bico de Ouro, and maximum of 6% incidence in cv. Lustroso. Under greenhouse conditions, plants of bean cultivars Lustroso, Paininha, and Bico de Ouro were inoculated with a conidial suspension of C. lindemuthianum at 30, 45, and 60 days after sowing, in order to determine the relation between plant age and efficiency of plant-seed transmission. The best transmission of the fungus was obtained with inoculation of the variety Lustroso at 45 days. Three methods of artificial inoculation of bean seeds with C. lindemuthianum (fast and prolonged immersion in conidial suspension, and contact with the colony surface on agar medium) were assayed for obtaining an adequate amount of contaminated seeds of cv. Lustroso. The third methods was the most efficient, In vitro inhibition tests, with 13 and 26 isolates of B. subtilis showed that fungicides the most inhibitory chemicals and bacteria were benomyl and prochloraz and AP 114 and AP 332 isolates, respectively. The methyl thiophanate, benornyl, and fentin hidroxide performed better than the two B. subtilis isolates in seed treatments for controlling C. lindemuthianum.
