Influence of some sources of organic matter on the formation of ectomycorrhizae by Pisolithus tinctorius (Pers.) Coker & Couch ano Thelephora terrestris Ehr. Ex Fr. with Pinus caribaea Morelet var. hondurensis Barret & Golfari seedlings
Resumen en inglés
The effects of sewage sludge, manure, filter cake and pine needle mulch, incorporated in the soil at the concentrations of, 10, 30 and 50% (v/v) on the formation of ectomycorrhizae by Pisolithus tinctorius and Thelephora terrestris with Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis seedlings were evaluated. The effects of the extracts of these organic matters incorporated in MMN agar (Melin-Norkrans nutrient medium modified by Marx) at the concentrations of 1, 10, 100 and 1,000 ppm and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15 and 20% on the mycelial growth of both ectomycorrhizal fungi were also investigated. Manure and pine mulch, at the concentration of 10% did not effect the formation of mycorrhizae by P. tinctorius and T. terrestris, while at the higher concentrations they reduced the amount of mycorrhizae formed by both fungi. Filter cake inhibited the formation of mycorrhizae by T. terrestris at all concentrations, whereas for P. tinctorius it affected only at 30 and 50%. Sewage sludge had the strongest inhibitory effect, acting at all concentrations tested against both fungi. With respect to the mycelial growth, inhibition was also detected, the levels of effects depending on the concentration of the extracts and the fungi tested. In general, the inhibitory effects occurred at extract concentrations above 1%. Filter cake did not affect the growth of P. tinctorius at all concentrations tested. Survival of both fungi in the soil was reduced by the incorporation of organic matter.
