Através de um levantamento nematológico de espécies parasitas associadas a tubérculos e rizosfera de plantas de batatinha (Solanum tuberosum L.), em cinco municípios produtores do Estado da Paraíba, foram identificados os seguintes nematóides: Criconemoides sp., Ditylenchus dipsaci, Helicotylenchus dihystera, Helicotylenchus sp., Meloidogyne incognita, Meloidogyne javanica, Meloidogyne sp. (larva), Peltamigratus ibiboca, Pratylenchus brachyurus, Rotylenchulus reniformis, Rotylenchulus sp., Trichodorus sp. e Xiphinema sp. As espécies causadoras de galhas, Meloidogyne incognita e Meloidogyne javanica, contribuem marcadamente à economia do lavrador, pois os tubérculos colhidos não chegam ao mercado consumidor devido à extrema deformação (pipocas) que apresentam, culminando em graves perdas. A espécie Peltamigratus ibiboca foi recentemente descrita. Ditylenchus dipsaci é agora assinalada pela primeira vez no Brasil. Estudou-se o método da termoterapia solar para controlar os nematóides das galhas (Meloidogyne incognita e M. javanica) infestando tubérculos. Tubérculos sementes da variedade "Delta Alemão" foram expostos ao sol em sacos pretos de polietileno, num total de cinco tratamentos: T1 (temperaturas variando entre 55-44°C); T2, (48-40°C); T3 (52-40°C); T4 (58-43°C); e T5 (58-44°C). Todos os tratamentos foram eficientes no controle dos nematóides. O melhor tratamento foi T1, em que se eliminaram 100% dos nematóides e 90% dos tubérculos permaneceram viáveis. Estes resultados indicam a grande potencialidade do método, para ser empregado como prática no controle dos nematóides das galhas em batatinha.

A survey of plant parasitic nematodes in 5 potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) producing areas in the State of Paraiba, Brazil, was made. The following species were found: Ditylenchus dipsaci, Helicotylenchus dihystera, Helicotylenchus sp., Meloidogyne incognita, Meloidogyne javanica, Meloidogyne sp. (larve), Peltamigratus ibiboca, Pratylenchus brachyurus, Rotylenchulus reniformis, Rotylenchulus sp., Trichodorus sp. and Xiphinema sp. Root-knot nematodes were the most economically important species, due to the severe desfigurement shown by the tubers. Peltamigratus ibiboca, a recently described species, was for the first time referred to Paraíba; D. dipsaci, an internationally known species, was for the first time referred to Brazil. Sun thermotherapy for control of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica) in potato tubers is reported. Seed potato tubers, variety "Delta Alemão",were put into polyethylene black bags and exposed to sun heat for 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 hours, the resulting variation of temperature inside the bags being 55-42°C (T1); 48-40°C (T2), 52-40°C (T3); 58-43°C (T4); and, 58-44°C (T5). All nematodes were eliminated by that treatments. Treatment T1 (4 hour exposition to sun temperature varying from 55 to 42°C) gave the best results, 90% of treated tubers remaining viable and killing all nematodes. Results here reported indicate that thermotherapy by sun heat was effective as a method for treating potato tubers infected with root-knot nematodes.
