Title in English
Pathogenical and serological characterization of Colletotrichum graminicola (Ces.) Wils. {sensu Arx, 1957} from wheat and varietal resistance in Triticum aestivum L.
Abstract in English
Taxonomy and nomenclature of the causal agent of wheat Anthracnose, Colletotrichum graminicola (Ces.) Wils. {sensu Arx, 1957} were discussed, based on the results obtained from serological and cross inoculation tests. The double diffusion tests in agar gel showed clearly that the wheat isolate of C. graminicola is serologically distinct from those from sugar cane (f. sp. sacchari) and sorghum (f. sp. sorghi). Cross inoculations were made under greenhouse conditions by the immersion of seedlings in conidial suspensions of C. graminicola isolated from different gramineous hosts. The results showed that wheat is infected only by the congenial isolate. The wheat isolate was also pathogenic to the tested rye and barley cultivars. Taking into account these results and the observations of other authors, it is suggested the designation of forma specialis secalis to the isolates of C. graminicola from wheat, rye and barley. The effect of utilization of different inoculum concentrations of C. graminicola in the reaction of four wheat cultivars was also studied. There were no differences in the symptomatology expressed by the inoculated seedlings. Among seventeen wheat cultivars that were inoculated with a congenial isolate of C. graminicola only the CNT 8 was resistant.
