Inoculation method of Ceratocystis fimbriata Ell. & Halst. and its chemical control on Crotalaria juncea L.
Resumé en anglais
The present work on C. fimbriata was done with the purposes to determine: 1- an easy and efficient method of inoculation; 2 - the occurrence of formae speciales; 3 - the best fungicide for in vitro control; 4 - the effect of genetic resistance on Crotalaria juncea and fungicide, on the pathogen control. Three methods of inoculation were studied: a) inoculation with injury and insertion of pathogen culture, b) inoculation with injury and inoculum spray and c) inoculation with injury and introduction of toothpick with inoculum. All methods were efficients, but it was prefered the method of injury and introduction of toothpick with inoculum due the ease of use. The formae speciales occurrence was studied through cross inoculation using isolates of C. fimbriata from Acacia decurrens, Crotalaria juncea, fig tree and mango tree. The following hosts were inoculated: Acacia decurrens, sweet potato, cocoa tree, coffee tree, Crotalaria juncea, pigeon pea, fig tree, tobbacco, Gmelina arborea, castor bean, mango tree and rubber tree. lt was not possible to determine the occurrence of formae speciales. The best fungicide for in vitro control of C. fimbriata was determined through tests on PDA culture media. The following benzimidazole group fungicides were tested: benomyl, thiophanate-methyl, carbendazim and thiabendazole. Carbendazim presented highest inhibition of vegetative growth. The cultivar IAC-1 of Crotalaria juncea with highest level of resistance for C. fimbriata, presented in greenhouse tests fewer died plants than Comum cultivar, in all treatments. The results were improved by carbendazim application.
