Title in English
Quantification of monocyclic parameters of the anthracnose (Colletotrichum lindemuthianum) and angular leaf spot (Phaeoisariopsis griseola) of common bean
Abstract in English
Monocyclic parameters of two bean diseases (angular leaf spot and anthracnose), were quantified on two bean cultivars (Rosinha and Carioca), in growth chambers. Incubation period, disease severity and lesion growth rate were assessed, under the temperatures of 6, 10, 14, 17, 21, 25, 29 and 33°C. Anthracnose did not develop under the temperatures of 6 and 33°C and no angular leaf spot symptoms occurred at 6 and 29°C. Temperature that favored best anthracnose was 17°C and shorter incubation period occurred at 29°C for the variety Rosinha, and 25°C for the variety Carioca. The curve adjustment was obtained by the Beta function. For the angular leaf spot, the severity was favored by the temperature range 20 and 25°C and incubation period were favored by the temperature of 25°C, for both varieties tested. This temperature also provided the greatest lesion growth rate and data were adjusted by a first grade equation. The effect of the leaf wetness duration (5, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48 and 54 hours) in the diseases severity was studied as well. There was no increment in anthracnose severity of the bean for periods of wetness superior of 24 hours. For the angular leaf spot, however the severity increased with the wetness duration period to the maximum of 54 hours tested. The variations of anthracnose and angular leaf spot in relation to the number of hours of leaf wetness were explained by the Richards model. The Beta-Richards function explained the combined effect of the temperature and leaf wetness duration in the severity of anthracnose and angular leaf spot for both varieties.
