Pathogenic characterization, chemical control and the perfect stage of Fusarium moniliforme Sheld. var. subglutinans Wr. E Rg of pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merril)
Abstract in English
Tests of pathogenicity of Fusarium moniliforme var. subglutinans on pineapple (Ananas comosus) cv. Pérola revealed that wound inoculation of shoots (pricking the host tissue with needles) with a spore suspension of 104 conidia/ml is a practical and efficient method for symptom reproduction; greater spore concentrations decrease the number of plants that emit roots and the weight of roots emitted. Comparative inoculations of pineapple shoots with 8 isolates of F. moniliforme var. subglutinans from pineapple showed that there is a great variation in pathogenicity among the isolates and that the pineapple cultivar Pérola is more susceptible than the Smooth Cayenne. “In vitro” fungitoxicity tests showed complete growth inhibition of one pineapple isolate of F. moniliforme var. subglutinans at 10 µg/ml of benomyl and thiabendazole and at 100 µg/ml of propiconazole. Under greenhouse conditions these fungicides had not therapeutic action ln pineapple cv. Pérola shoots previously inoculated. ln eradicative tests, where shoots were treated 4 hr after inoculation, only captafol and propiconazole were effective. Captafol, propiconazole and thiabendazole showed protective action on shoots inoculated 7 days after fungicide treatment. Perithecia of Gibberella fujikuroi var. subglutinans were obtained for the first time by mating isolates of F. moniliforme var. subglutinans from pineapple, in V-8 o juice-agar, at 20 ± 2°C, under a 12 hr photoperiod.
