Title in English
Study of the abscission of fruits of the "Natal" orange tree (Citrus sinensis Osbeck) in the preharvest phase
Abstract in English
The aim of this research was to study the pre-harvest drop of 'Natal' orange fruits (Citrus sinensis Osbeck). The research was conducted with the purpose of studying some treatments that are used to reduce this drop, extending the picking season. The experiment was carried out in Boa Vista Farm, at Leme (SP), and in Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz, at Piracicaba (SP). The experiment design was a factorial 7 x 3+ 1, with 3 replications, in randomized blocks. Seven products were evaluated in 3 different doses: Potassium Nitrate (0,3 / 0,4 and 0.5 Kg /tree) ; Calcium Acetate ( 0,05/0,275 and 0,5 M); Gibberellic Acid (10/20 and 30 ppm); 2,4 - D (6/8 and 10 ppm); 2,4 -D + Gibberellic Acid ( 6 + 20 ppm/10 + 10 ppm and 10 + 20ppm); Benomyl ( 25/50 and 75 gl 100 l) and AzinÍfós Etilico(60/80 and 100g/ 100 l) These products were sprayed over the crown of the trees in three different stages :- one month after the fruit setting- when the fruíts were completely developed- when the fruits were in the beginning of their maturation, showing half of their final coloration. The fruits dropped under the trees werecounted. Samples of fruits were harvested for evaluationof quality, through: 1) weight of the fruits 2)vertical diameter 3) juice percentage 4) weight and number of seeds 5) Acídity 6) Brix 7) Relation between Acidity / Soluble Solids (Ratio) The weight of fruits produced showed that the blocks were homogeneous and they weren't statistically different. When the data of Ratio and Vertical Diameter are observed, the plants were not statiscally different. So, the number of dropped fruits / tree, can be used as a parameter of the experiment evaluation, allowing the following conclusions : None of the treatments presented mature frui t retention -Among the products evaluated, only Benomyl and Gibberellin, at the medium and high doses (Benlate at 50 and 75g / 100 l, and GA at 20 and 30 ppm), presented a smaller fruit dropping , when compared to Azinfos Etilico at the higuest dose (Gusathion at 100 g/100 l) , the treatment with the greatest fruit dropping -All the others treatments , including the control, were in between those mentioned previously - The fruit quality was not affected by any treatment -The tree production were not affected by any treatment
