Abstract in Portuguese
O solo é do tipo Latossol Vermelho Amarelo Álico, pouco profundo, A proeminente, textura argilosa média, fase relêvo, fortemente ondulado.

Effect of different levels of NPK on the seedling production of ginger lily, Hedychium gardnerianum Sheppard ex Ker-Gawl, (Zingiberaceae) and the influence on rhizome's morphology
Abstract in English
The effects of different levels of NPK on the seedling production of ginger lilly, Hedychium gardnerianum Sheppard ex Ker-Gawl, Zingiberaceae, and the influence on the rhizome's morphology were studied in an experiment set up in the years 1985/1987 at the Section of Ornamentals, Institute of Botany, belonging to the Environment Secretary of São Paulo State, in the São Pau- lo city. The climate of the place according Thornthwaite 1948, is of the B3B'3rs2a' type, with occasional frost occurrency and almost no dry season. The soil is classified as a Latosol Red and Yellow alic with proeminent A and medium clay texture. After chemically analysed it received an application of dolomitic limestone. The planting was laid out at two locals each one having all the 27 treatments. The nutrients were nitrogen, alternating ammonium sulphate and urea; phosphorous using supertriple phosphate and potassium, using potassium chloride. The experimental design used was randomized one, with two replicates and the statistical analyses being done on a 3x3x3 factorial scheme (3 levels of N, P, K). The parameters used for analysis were: total dry matter weight, leaf area, rhizome's lenght and number of sprouts. The percentage of germination showed a number of 80,63%. Potassium showed the most positive results and in second place, phosphorous, this for dry matter weight and leaf area. For the rhizome's morphology potassium showed significance for the lenght of rhizome, while for the number of sprouts there was no significance, for nutrients and even for the locals. The best results were achieved at the shady local and with' the follows quantities for square meter, for the parameters, dry matter weight, leaf area and lenght of rhizome. a) 20g of nitrogen - 80g of phosphorous - 20g of potassium; b) 40g of nitrogen - 80g of phosphorous - 40g of potassium; c) 20g of nitrogen - 40g of phosphorous - 40g of potassium. The seedlings that received the quantities above, reached a size that permits to sell them as plants for beds in gardens and parks.
