Title in English
Maturation and potential of storage of seeds of 'Aroana' bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
Abstract in English
This research deals with the maturation of 'Aroana' bean seeds by associating the physiological maturity to morphological characteristics of seeds and plants, as well as the potencial of storage of the seeds in laboratory conditions. The study of seeds maturation was carried out in the field, during the year 1981/1982. At different times, ten harvests were made from 29 to 63 days after the beginning of the blooming period. The following parameters were determined: final number of plants, yield, seed color, moisture content, seed dry matter, germination and seed vigor. Brief descriptions of the plants in relation to the leaves and pod and seed color were presented as well. The seeds were stored in laboratory conditions an germination and vigor tests were done trimestrially. The results were as follows: the seed dry matter weight was insufficient by itself to characterize physiological maturity of the seeds; pod is more efficient to identify the physilogical maturity of bean seeds than seed color; the initial condition of seed quality is one the main factors to determine the storability
