Title in English
Interaction effects of EPTC with aldicarb and carbofuran in bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) plants
Abstract in English
In order to study the interaction effects of the herbicide EPTC (S-ethyl-dipropylthiocarbamate) applied alone or with the insecticides aldicarb [2-methyl -2-(methylthio)-propionaldehyde-0-(methylcarbamoyl)-oxime] and carbofuran [2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7-benzofuranyl methylcarbamate], with and without nitrogen, on the growth of common bean plants and the activity of the nitrate reductase enzyme, two experiments were carried out in greenhouses at the Centro Experimental de Campinas, Instituto Agronômico. Soil of a loarmy dark-red latosol, was sterilized, silver and put in aluminum pots with capacity for 5 liters. In the first experiment aldicarb and carbofuran were tested at 1, 2 and 3 kg a. i. ha-1combined or not witth 50 N ha-1, using the cultivars Aroana and Carioca. Evaluation done at 36 days after seeding (DAS), showed that cv. Aroana had lower heights whith aldicarb at 2 kg ha-1, without N and carbofuran at 2 and 3 Kg ha-1 with N. In the second experiment, using only cultivar Carioca, aldicarb and carbofuran were applied at 2 kg , ha-1 and EPTC, at 3,6 kg ha-1, alone and associated with the insecticides, all with or without N at 50 kg ha-1, in the KN03 form. The plant height and the dry matter production (DMP) were measured at 22 and 41 DAS and the number of pods, DMP of pods and the grain yield, at harvest, for all treatrnents. EPTC, alone and without N, caused growth retention at 41 DAS, with the lowest height. Considering the values of total number of pods, number of healthy pods, DMP pods without seeds, number of seeds and seed yield, for the cv. Carioca, aldicarb and carbofuran at 2 kg ha-1 and aldicarb plus EPTC showed stimulatory effects on the bean plants in the presence or absence of nitrogen. With this association the yield was significantly higher in the treatments with and without N. Nitrate reductase activity at 8 days after KN03 application, in the recently expanded leaves of the cv. Carioca, was enhanced. The association of aldicarb plus EPTC, in the presence or absence of nitrogen, increased enzyme activity, as occurred with carbofuran without N, at 24 days.
