Title in English
Quality determination of substrates commercialized in Piracicaba - SP
Abstract in English
This work aimed at characterizing physically and chemically 41 commercial substrates and biologically evaluating them for the production of lettuce, cucumber and tomato seedlings. For the physical characterization, the following parameters were evaluated: density, air-filled porosity, water-filled porosity, total porosity and granulometry. For the chemical characterization, pH and electrical conductivity were evaluated. The biological test of the substrates is evaluated through rating scale seedling root system and the aerial part dry mass for cucumber and tomato seedlings. In the biological test for quality of seedlings at transplanting-point, the following results were observed: for the lettuce seedlings the S13 and S21 treatments produced seedlings of excellent quality; for the cucumber seedlings S15 treatment presented the best result; for the tomato seedlings, treatments S35 and S18 presented the best results. It was observed that the lettuce seedlings developed better in the S21 and S13 treatments, with densities of 0,76 and 0,43 g.cm-3, pH equal to 6,60 and 5,79 and electrical conductivity of 4,87 and 3,73 mS cm-1, respectively, being the fertilizer substratum of cow dung -West Garden and earthworm humus, without a registered trademark, the two most indicated substrates. Cucumber seedlings developed better in the S15 treatment with density of 0,46 g.cm-3, pH equal to 8,13 and electrical conductivity of 3,06 mS cm-1, being Húmus esterco de minhoca Xaxins Campinas the most indicated substrate. The tomato seedlings developed better in the S35 and S18 treatments with density of 0,66 and 0,38 g.cm-3, pH equal to 4,74 and electrical conductivity of 6,40 and 5,35 mS cm-1, respectively, being Plantmax®-HT and Húmus - A.M.Beloto the most indicated substrates. Among substrates evaluated, 19,5 % were of good quality
