Performance of different types of propagation materials of banana (Musa sp.) “nanicão” and grande naine varieties from two origins: rhizome and tissue culture
Abstract in English
The objective of the present work had to study the performance of different types of propagation materials of banana (Musa sp.) varietes “Nanicão and Grande Naine from two origins: rhizome and tissue culture (meristem derived material). The experiment was carried out at the Department of Horticulture of the Escola Superior de Agricultura “Luiz de Queiroz”, University of São Paulo, São Paulo State, Brazil. The climate of the region is Cwa, according to Koepenn classification. For each treatment the evaluation was done as follows: Leaf length, Leaf breadth, pseudostem diameter, number of the bunch, weight of the infrutescence and number of the fruits for infrutescence. After the data analysis for each treatment, it was possible, from using the “sun ray plots” method, to conclude that: the cultivar Grande Naine, tissue culture, showed the lesser values for the variables number of fruits, weight of the infrutescence, number of the bunch, and pseudostem diameter; the cultivar Grande-Naine, rhizome, presented the best performance for the variable weight of the infrutescence. lt was conclude yet that the propagation from rhizome sections, in generally, showed the best results related to the variables of the greates commercial interesting, that is, number of bunch and weight of the infrutescence. The micropropagated seedlings, mainly for the cultivar Grande Naine presented the worst performance related to the yield characteristics. lt was supposed that this fact can due to the somaclonal variation relatively common on the propagation in vitro.
