Title in English
Biostimulant action on seeds germination, seedlings vigor, root growth and yield of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill), common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and rice (Oryza sativa L.)
Abstract in English
The trials were carried out within the Plant Physiology Laboratory and in the greenhouse of Experimental Botany section, of the Department of Biological Sciences at ESALQ - USP, from August, 1998 to December, 2000. The effects of biostimulant Stimulate (0,009% of kinetin, 0,005% of gibberellic acid and 0,005% of indolbutyric acid), were verified on seeds germination, seedlings vigor, root growth, and crop yield. Also, were established concentrations of product applied by seeds. Were used crops of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill cv. IAC-8-2), common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Carioca), and rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Primavera) submitted to the concentrations of Stimulate (1.0; 2.0; 3.0; 4.0 and 5.0 ml/0.5 kg of seeds), and 3.0 ml of distillate water/0.5 kg of seeds was utilized as control (zero concentration of Stimulate). The biostimulant was applied directly to the seeds and after one hour the trials were carried out. The experiment design adopted was completely randomized with 6 treatments (concentrations) and four replications. The results were analyzed using regression. Tests of seeds germination and seedlings vigor were installed in laboratory, and the studies of root growth were evaluated using rizotrons in greenhouse conditions. Any problem with phytotoxicity on seeds, seedlings and plant of the analyzed crops were observed. Seeds germination and seedlings vigor were favoured by Stimulate applications, showing significant differences related to control. The root system of plants originated from seeds pre-treated with the biostimulant, showed differences on vertical root growth, total root length, and vertical root growth speed, significantly superior to the zero concentration of Stimulate, mainly the parameter vertical root growth. The parameters related to the yield, showed expressive increasement in contrast to the zero concentration of Stimulate. Successive, easy, and fast determinations on vertical root growth, were proportionated by rizotrons. New studies on Stimulate action on seeds, seedlings and planta should be implemented for better comprehension and understanding of its morphophysiological effects.
