Drying of soybean seeds in a radial-air-flow dryer

Abstract in English
The drying process of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) seeds was studied, with the objective of verifying the consequences of different air flows and different temperatures of the drying air on the quality of the seeds. Seed quality was evaluated on distintic drying times and at different positions in the radial-air-flow dryer. The following parameters were described in the research: ambient and drying air characteristics; temperature and moisture content of the drying seeds; drying equations; and physiological seed quality during storage. Within the range of 26,9 to 33,2 m3/min/t, for the air flow rate, injected radially, at the temperatures of 42 to 50°C, during the drying process of soybean seeds in radial-air-flow dryer, it can be concluded that a temperature elevation requires reduction in the air flow rate. On the other hand, an increase in the air flow rate requires a reduction in the temperature.
