The study of several types of propagation of west indian cherry (<i>Malpighia glabra</i> L.)
Abstract in English
A comparison was done between three seasons for the planting of cuttings, whether softwood, semi-woody, or woody, treated and non treated with growth regulator in Piracicaba. Survival, hardening and root formation depended upon the season. The woody cuttings presented the highest rates of root formation. Apptication of growth regulator increased survival of cutting and formation of their roots. The planting of cuttings earried out in São Bento do Sapucai, with woody and semi-woody cuttings, treate-d and non treated with growth regulator, did not show satisfactory results for the months of February and May. Grafting in three seasons through inverted ?T? budding and graftings, covered or not with plastic bags, in São Bento do Sapucaí, produced the best results when carried out at the beginning of the vegeta tive growth coincident, with the increase of temperature. The best results were ohtained with graftíng, with plastic bag coverings during ali the seasons. As the gennination, there was no difference, among treatments; but the results suggest that the germination medium influences the development of the seedlings, even after the transplant. When the seedlings developed in a protected environment, their development were greater.
