O presente trabalho foi realizado na Estação Experimental de Recursos Genéticos do Cacau José Haroldo de propriedade da CEPLAC em Belém-PA. Objetivou estudar a influência do genótipo e do peso das sementes no desenvolvimento e vigor das mudas de cacau (Theobroma cacao L.). Usaram-se cinco cultivares clonais de cacau, quais sejam: IMC-67, MA-15, BE-8, PA-121 e Catongo, cujas sementes foram obtidas de frutos de polinização livre. Após colheita e quebra dos frutos, procedeu-se a eliminação da mucilagem das sementes com pó de serra seco. Em seguida, as sementes foram pesadas individualmente e separadas em três classes em função do seu peso. O preparo das mudas obedeceu as recomendações de SANTOS et alii (1980) sendo o experimento conduzido em condições de viveiro coberto e protegido lateralmente com sombrite. Usou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado em parcelas subdivididas com três repetições. A avaliação dos tratamentos foi feita através do estudo da germinação, velocidade de emergência, diâmetro e altura do caule, área foliar e peso da matéria seca das plântulas. O peso das sementes influiu na formação das mudas., observando-se que a utilização de sementes pesadas possibilitou a obtenção de mudas mais vigorosas. Dentre os cultivares, as mudas de IMC-67 apresentaram maiores pesos de matéria seca, área foliar, e diâmetro e altura do caule. A germinação e a velocidade de emergência não foram influenciadas pelo peso das sementes, apresentando no entanto, diferença entre os genótipos, onde o PA-121 apresentou comportamento inferior aos demais. Não foram observadas associações entre ·as quantidades de reservas de proteína, lipídios e açucares totais e o vigor das mudas.

This study was c onduted at Experimental Station of Cacao Genetical Resources Josê Haroldo from CEPLAC, Belem, Pará, Brazil, in order to evaluate the genotype and seeds weight influence on the development and vigor of cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) The following cacao clonal c ultivars were used: IMC-67, MA-15, BE-8, PA-121 and Catongo with seeds of fruits from free pollination. After harvesting and fruit breaking, seed mucus was remove d with dry s aw dust. The seeds were then individually weighted and sorted out into three classes according to their weight. Seedlings prepara ti on followed the recommendatims of SANTOS et alii (1980) in which the experiment was conduted on covered nu rsery with the sideways protected with plastic net in order to allow 50% of light. A complete randomized design sub-divided plots and three replicates w as seed. The treatments evaluation was made by following germination, speed of emergence, sten diameter and height, leaf area, and dry weight of seedlings. The seeds weight affected seedling development, in which heaviér seeds produced more vigorous seedlings. Among the cultivars, IMC-67 seedlings had greater dry weight, leaf area-, and s tem diameter and height. The germination and speed of emergence were not affected by the seeds weight, this resulted in differences among the genotypes, where the PA-121 showed inferior results comparered to the others. There were no connections among proteins reserve, lipids and seeds total sugars and the seedlings vigor.
