A cultura do meloeiro, cultivar Amarelo CAC tem se mostrado promissora no Vale do Submédio são Francisco. Além de haver se adaptado bem às condições locais de cultivo, produzindo frutos de boa qualidade, apresenta a vantagem de atender o mercado consumidor no período de entressafra. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo estudar a influência do número de ramos e frutos por planta no tamanho dos frutos do meloeiro (Cucumis melo L.. cv. Valenciano). O experimento foi realizado no Campo Experimental do Bebedouro, Petrolina-PE, no per1odo de dezembro de 1978 a fevereiro de 1979., O delineamento usado foi em esquema Split-Plot, em blocos ao acaso com doze repetições. Os tratamentos representavam 2 e 3 ramos por planta e os subtratamentos referiam-se ao número de frutos por planta, variando entre 2, 3 e 4. De acordo com os dados obtidos, verificou-se que não houve efeito significativo para número de ramos e número de frutos por planta. Observou-se, no entanto, que o aumento do número de frutos por planta proporcionou uma maior produção total. Foi constatado que a maior percentagem de frutos obtida foi de tamanho médio e pequeno.

The culture of melon plant, cultivar Yellow CAC, has been promissing in the Sub-Middle São Francisco Valley. It had been well adapted to the local conditions for cultivation, producing fruits of good quality. Also, it meets the demand of consuming market in the mid-harvest period. This work had the objective to study the influence of numbers of branches and fruits per plant ·in the size of the me- lon plant fruits (Cucumis melo L.. cv. Valenciano). This experiment was carried out at the Experiment Fiel d o f Bebedouro, in Petrolina-PE., from December, 1978 to February, 1979. The outline utilized was the scheme split-splot, at randomized blocks with twelve repetitions. The treatmens represented 2 and 3 branches per plant and the subtreatments referred to the num.ber of fruits per plant varying between 2, 3 and 4. According to the data obtained, it was verified that there was no significant effect for the number of branches and number of fruits per plant. However, it was observed that the increase in the number of fruits per plant caused a higher total production. It was verified that the higher per centage of fruits obtained was of medium and small sizes.
