Keywords in Portuguese
ARROZ DE SEQUEIRO
CAPACIDADE DE COMBINAÇÃO
CRUZAMENTO VEGETAL
HETEROSE
Title in English
Heterosis and combining ability in upland rice (Oryza sativa L.)
Abstract in English
Twenty five crosses between two groups of upland rice were evaluated in a partial 5 x 5 diallel scheme for heterosis and combining ability following the model of GARDNER & EBERHART (1966), adapted by MIRANDA FILHO & GERALDI (1984): (See dissertation). The total heterosis was estimated at three levels for generations F1 e F 2 : relative to mid-parent, high parent and commercial check. The trial were carried out at two environments and the following traits were evaluated: 100 kerned weight, kernels per panicle, panicles per plant, and estimated yield. The analysis of the diallel cross and the estimates of general combining ability (See dissertation) and specific combining ability were obtained through the least square procedure. High values of heterosis were observed in some instances and some varieties and crosses were outstanding for general and specific combining ability. It was noted, however, that some specific conditions for either environment and/or generation (F1 e F 2) showed inconsistent results
