Keywords in Portuguese
ESCHERICHIA COLI
GENÉTICA
Title in English
Characterization and genetical aspects of strains of Escherichia coli
Abstract in English
In the present work 143 strains of Escherichia coli isolated from faeces of young swine (2 weeks) were studied for their biochemical properties, growth in specific medium, STa (heat stable) and LT (heat labile) enterotoxins production, colonization factors, bacteriocin production and antibiotic resistance marks. The agarose gel electrophoretic analysis showed the occurrence of plasmids among the strains study. Most of the strains had more than one plasmid and their occurrence could be related with the enterotoxin and bacteriocin production, as well as to multiple antibiotic resistance marks. The study of the Escherichia coli strains isolated from young swine has a major importance to future research of pathogenicity factors and mechanisms of pathogenicity of this group in pigs, raising more information about the variability of strains inhabiting the normal and diarreic flora of the animal and their profiles of antibiotic resistance and pathogenicity as well as to advance of the colibacilosis diagnosis (wich severely affects the young swine) and to the development of vaccines against it in a near future.
