MAXIXE
REGULADORES DE CRESCIMENTO VEGETAL

Effects of ethephon (2-chloroethylphosphonic acid) on glerkin (cucumis anguria L.)
Abstract in English
The ethephon is a plant growth regulator normally utilized as modifier of the flower set habit of species of genus Cucumis, mainly melon and cucumber. Hence, this investigation aimed to study the effects of this exogenous chemical on the "performance" on "behavior", sex expression and fruit set in two populations of gherkin, called Mx3 and Mx29. It were crescent and sucessive dosages of ethephon applied to plants, and the evaluation was made determining the day number for anthesis of the first flower and total number of male and female flower on the plant development and fruit yield. From the results and observations herein can be formulated the following conclusions: - The reaction of both populations is similar to effects of the application of ethephon - Only one application in the concentrations of 50, 100, 200, and 400 (ppm) μlg/ml did not alterate the mo- noeciou in gherkin; - Erom ihe ethephon applications of 50, 100, 200 and 400 (ppm) μg/ml in sucession after the initial dos age of 200 ppm, only the concentration of 100 μg/ml promoted the temporaty ginoecious character. The concentration of 50 μg/ ml did not alterate the flower set habit. The concentrations of 200 and 400 ppm caused atrophy of the plants, delaying the male and female flower set and inhibition and reduction of flowers and fruit yield in gherkin; - In applications of successive dosages of 100 ppm, followed to a initial dosage of 200 ppm only after 3 three applications of 100 ppm there was sex reversion, however increasing the application number there was a delay of male and female anthesis begining, as well as, reduction of male and famale flowers, fruits and seeds atrophy of the plants; yield and - The cotiledonar stages of first, second, third and forth. definitive leaves pair were adequate for application begining of ethephon in gherkin.
