Title in English
Reaction and inheritance of resistance to Phytophthora capsisi Leonian in Capsicum spp.
Abstract in English
Sweet and hot pepper varieties have been showing high susceptibility to root rot caused by Phytophthora capsica, limiting growth in hot and humidly seasons. There are many published data about resistance to this disease in pepper but there are contradictions about their genetic inheritance. This research aimed: to evaluate introductions of Capsicum sp according to their reaction to Phytophthora capsica; to verify if the genes involved in the resistance of 4 varieties of pepper are the same genes or alleles; to determine the genes involved on the resistance of the introduction ?Pimenta Ornamental Picante? to Phytophthora capsica. To evaluate the introduction of Capsicum sp 3 experiments were set in randomized blocks with 3 replicates, where one of the replicates was not inoculated. The inoculum concentration was 10.000 zoospores per ml for all experiments and 3 ml per plant was utilized close to the stem, 45 days after sowing. A scale ranging from 1 to 5 was used for evaluation, where the minor note corresponded to resistant. Differences in resistance were observed and the variety Ikeda was completely susceptible. Thirteen introductions of Capsicum annuum and 5 of Capsicum chinense were resistant. No sources resistance were found among Capsicum baccatum introductions. The introduction ?Pimenta Ornamental Picante? was identified as highly resistant and it was crossed with the susceptible variety Avelar in order to study the inheritance of resistance. F1, F2 and backcrosses generations for both parents were inoculated with Phytophthora capsica suspension in the same way described previously, at the adult stage. Through the observed segregation it is demonstrated that there is two genes involved, with dominant and recessive epistasy. For the allelism test 4 resistant introductions of Capsicum annuum were used. Four experiments were done in randomized blocks with 3 replications using the variety Ikeda as checking. The F1, F2 generations and their respective progenitors behaved as resistant to Phytophthora capsica, indicating that the same gene associated with the resistance is present.
